I just bought my first AR15 yesterday and I'm wondering what would be a good first all-in-one cleaning kit to grab.

The gun:  Bushy 223, 16" barrel.  Basically all stock.

I saw the regular hoppe's, kleen bore, etc. kits, but I wasn't sure if that was going to cut it.

Thanks in advance!

Josh

Check out Pro Shot and get a Chamber Maid and a Bore Guide.  I use MilComm TW25B and degreaser/cleaner for lube etc.

I have a ton of cleaning stuff I've acquired over the years.  FWIW, here's what I'd get for an AR:

1.  Break Free CLP (Buy a gallon.  Ounce-for-ounce it is much cheaper.)
2.  A good foaming bore cleaner (I use Break Free's)
3.  Otis Buttstock Cleaning System LINK or a USGI buttstock cleaning kit (although I prefer not to use uncoated steel rods).

ETA - Unchlorinated brake cleaner is also great for cleaning/degreasing gun parts.  It works as well as Gun Scrubber, but is much less expensive.

A one-piece rod, as suggested below, is a good alternative to the Otis system for breech to bore cleaning.  I have Dewey coated rods in .17, .22 and .30 caliber.

Brownell's AR-15 UPPER RECEIVER CLEANING KIT is also nice to have, but not a necessity.

Thanks guys, I bought some ammo today, and started piecing together my kit by adding on some clp break free, and break free bore foam.

They were out of a lot of the other stuff though, so I have a ways to go.

Here's what I need next, and wondering if anyone can recommend the best website I can go to that I could grab all of it.

1. One piece rod
2. GI cleaning kit
3. Good 30 round mags for the bushy
4. Rubber grip, preferably Hogue
5. Telescoping stock

Thanks again!

You can get all of it at Brownells or Midway.  Maybe Cabelas, too.

A Dewey one-piece coated rod will probably run you about $25 plus shipping, and you'll also need a loop or jag and bore brush.

As to mags, IMO the best value for the money is USGI 30s with anti-tilt followers.  It's nice to have some USGI 20s, too, for shooting off the bench or prone.

If you get the disease bad, get yourself a Curio & Relic FFL.  Brownells, Midway and others give C&R license holders dealer discounts, which can save you money on supplies, parts and accessories.

Have a Sportsman's Warehouse near by? They have a pretty good assortment of supplies and decent prices.
