Hi, I need suggestions on optics for a rifle. Its for a Mini-14 Ranch rifle (cant have AR15's anymore). I dont need anything super expensive (obvious reasons). I just need something that is rugged, inexpensive (200-300 range) and wont loose zero or wander. Any experiences with different brands that fit the description would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I came to the conclusion that a Burris Fullfield II, made in CO, was preferrable over the Leupold VX-II, made here in Beaverton, Oregon.

I saw the Burris 3-9x40 Fullfield II for as low as $189.

Many also praise the Nikon lines, although those are imports, and you may value doing what's best for the place one lives -- since you in CA are living with the results of neglect.

If you are looking for a dot optic, the EOTech 511.A65 and the Aimpoint ML2 make a good choice IMHO.

Thanks. I appreciate the info that AR15.COM members have to offer. I see its available at SWFA for $187.

I had considered red dot optics, but I would have to buy an additional mount for it.

Jeeper21, a lot of red dot optics come with a mount included (EOTech, HAKKO). The Aimpoint 30mm Weaver mount (model#10819) is only an additional $20.00 dollars so your not going to break the bank.

Is Simmons, a good quality scope? I can get one pretty cheap.

As far as magnified optics, the Weaver Grand Slam and Nikon Monarch are first class and within your $200 to $300 price range.  Both are fully multicoated.  For a few $$ more, the Bushnell Elite 4200 is great too.

Another vote for a Burris.  I have a compact 4X on my M-4.  And it looks great.  And the looks are on the inside too.  Excellent scope.  Optically, I would put it up against just about anything.  And they are strong as hell.  Do yourself a favor, pick one up and look through it before you buy one.  They have the best eye relief too.
Seriously.
