Hi Everyone!
I am building an upper for my FA AR. I am going to use a Bushmaster 14.5" barrel, and an Ares piston conversion. I would like to get a complete A2 upper to mount it all on. This is going to be a FA rattle gun, not a match piece. I want a good quality upper that will hold up, but don't need the best, of the best, of the... (witty Men in Black reference Suggestions? Thanks! |

If you mean does it have the M4 feed ramp cuts, I don't know. I haven't bought it yet. If you mean does it have the M4 cut in front of the FSB, yes it does. It is a toss up between the HBAR Bushy, and the RRA middle weight barrel. The Bushmaster has the price beat hands down, and I have an 11.5" Bushy HBAR, and I like it. I will make my final decision shortly I am in no real hurry to put this together, as I have the 11.5" setup I can drop the Ares setup in for now (when it shows up). So, I can certainly keep shopping for an upper for a while. I see that Del-Ton has A2 Assemblies for $135. Anyone know what they are like? |
You have a shrike on order?![]() Ok, here is a quick visual on the "m4 Ramp" feature. The M4 cutout on the barrel that you are talking about is the cut for hanging a Mk203 launcher. Most modern 14.5" - 16" barrels will have the ramps. Most A2 receivers do not. This is not generally a problem as you can see below. What you don't want, especially in a full-auto setup, is M4 ramp cuts on the receiver but not on the barrel. The problem is that rounds can get caught in the unmatched machined surfaces. Most folks selling upper receivers will indicate if it has M4 cuts or not. I saw a Colt 6520 receiver on the EE, that has M4 ramps. The purpose of the M4 feedramp cuts is to improve feeding on full auto/burst. Hope this helps! |

I wish I was ordering a Shrike, but my first post says I am putting a piston upper together. That means I am getting the GXR-35 conversion! Thanks for the information on the M4 cutouts. However, I've been in uniform since 1975, so I had a pretty good handle on the M4 profile/m203 mounting point thing I should probably go for the M4 ramps, but I have had this rifle since the late 1980's, and never had a problem with any of my pre-ramp uppers! \So far, the only thing on order is the Ares kit, so I can always change my mind! |
