I am getting ready to build my first AR. I have the lower and i am looking for an affordable but reliable upper assembly. Would love to here the suggestions from the guys who have been into this for awhile.

I suppose we'd be able to point you in a better direction if you let us know what price range we're working with. Keep in mind though, the above mentioned uppers from CMMG are pretty much loaded (MPI barrel, M4 feed ramps, M4 handguards, complete w/ BCG) and sell for over $600 plus about $25 for shipping if you order from CMMG's website, whereas they are only $525 if you order from AIM, with essentially free shipping.

I've never heard a complaint about Del-Ton though, so if you're looking for a more ecenomical build, that's not a bad way to go. I'd highly recommend Stag too.

I just bought a complete rifle kit (includes assembled, headspaced, and test-fired upper, plus everything required to complete a stripped lower receiver) from Del-Ton for a little under $500.00.

Took exactly one week from order until in my hands.

I put it together Monday night on a Doublestar stripped lower, and have not had the opportunity to test fire it yet, but so far all looks good.
