I am looking to buy a cleaning kit for my ARs that travels well i.e. Not super large. I don't need a kit that comes with its own lubricant unless it is slip 2000. I am looking to buy two of them one for me and one for the girlfriend. Would love to know what you all like to use. Thanks!

Are you in Orlando area? I have an extra Otis cleaning kit that’s been laying around.

I'm a fan of the Otis pull through cleaning kit, have several in different bags. It's small, compact and does the job.

You can buy the Otis I-MOD kit for your purpose. It comes with a bottle and you fill it up with whatever you want.

You can get surplus ones at fairly low prices.

Otis.
Add a usgi cleaning rod just in case the cable used by Otis doesnt work for you.

GI cleaning kits because I prefer solid cleaning rods over cables.

I don't buy into the whole kit thing. I bought a usgi kit and about all I used was the chamber brush and tooth brush. I also bought an otus kit and have never used it. I use a bore snake. If it gets real bad I'll use a chamber brush on a cordless drill. A can of brake cleaner for if it gets a bunch of dirt in it. I run my gun wet with ATF and I have zero carbon build up so no need for brushes or scrapers

The USGI Otis kits come with solid rods. So a non-issue.

OP, I'd snag either a real older USGI kit or an Otis USGI kit off ebay.

Issue something to soldiers, it will end up cheap on ebay.

If you do a bit of cleaning though, or want to clean precision guns...

you'd be better off with dewey nylon coated rods and brass and nylon bore brushes, jags, bore guides, etc.

I have a couple Otis kits, mostly from deployment, but barely use them.

Def Otis but check out the real avid one designed for the AR. Not a bad Lil kit

Am I the only one who found the Otis kit to complicated? I read the instructions, something about how to attach the patches differently depending on caliber. Uses proprietary patches. I could never remember all that. Bore snake is so easy!

Agreed.

My gun cleaning kit is close to 35 years old, assembled my self, Plano tackle box, my own supplies.  Purchased an Otis at the 2004 NRA show in Houston,  never used it.

I am back to basics, nothing complicated...Tipton rods, Shooters Choice breakdown rods, Tipton brushes, jags, Lyman tools, punches, Slip oils, Wilson Combat oils/grease, Wheeler Engineering tools...

The Dewey complete ar15 cleaning kit is very nice, but it's going to be on the higher end price wise. https://deweyrods.com/product/complete-ar-15-cleaning-kit-30-inch-rod/

Other than smaller cleaning patches for the AR15 I also use the larger patches for my handguns and shotguns. You need to buy an Otis cleaning kit that has the rubber plugs for shotguns. You can watch the YouTube videos that shows you how to put the cleaning patches on the pull cable. I bought some of the Otis "All Clean" larger ones from Cabela's when I saw that they had them. You can order the Otis cleaning kits and patches from Amazon.com,  Ebay.com, etc.

I keep an Otis tactical cleaning kit with my AR-15. It fits easily inside of my rifle case or range bag. It has everything you need to clean and lube the rifle. They are a little pricey, but the quality it outstanding.
