| I am new here, I have been trolling your forums for a little while now and finally got a account set up. FIrst off there is so much info here I am overwhelmed. The reason for my first post is I live in CT so we still have the banin effect. I bought 2 preban lowers for a steal of a deal in another state and will be doing my first build. I am looking for a upper with a 16" barrel for one and a SBR for the other probably like a 10" or 9" I want to quite them both up down the road, any suggestions on a upper. My lowers are Olympic arms and stripped right now although I have a LPK for one I am going to start on today. I will probably do the 16" first as there is no tax stamp for it until I quite it. Looking for a middle of the road upper as I never like to by junk but dont think I shoot well enough for a top of the line. I just want reliable any input would be great thanks in advance guys. |

I'll say check out PSA (Palmetto State Armory a site sponsor) before the rest do. There are plenty of good quality manufacturers and if you research this topic with the search button, you will find that it gets asked at least once a day.
Lets start with the questions that everyone is going to ask: 1. Is this your first AR? 2. Have you ever built one before? 3. Do you have the proper tools to perform the work? 4. What kind of budget do you have? 5. Do you have a brand(s) in mind? - Be prepared to get several reccomendations on this one. 6. What kind of optics to you plan to use? if you would answer these first, then we can get you started. Hopefully we keep you within your budget. |
| This is my first AR and rifle build. I have a few choices in CT none of which I like to much so I decided to look for a preban and build what I want to. I do have most if not all the tools required and I will purchase or borrow those I do not. I really enjoy shooting pistols and recently decided to get in to black guns. My budget is between 700-800 dollars as I want to put a can on it, so need to save some money for that. I dont know one manufacturer from another not sure who sells junk and who sells quality at resonable prices. So some ideas would be great in another words if you were in my position what would you put on your lower. Thanks |

..... if you were in my position what would you put on your lower. Thanks Most likely anything you come up with will be better than those Olympic lowers. Hopefully, your Olys are good ones and are in spec. There are many good uppers but I suggest picking out a barrel first. The barrel extension will either have rifle ramps or M4 ramps. Then find an upper you like that is either rifle or M4 to match your barrel extension. Post your choice up here before you buy. |

What kind of setup do you want to run (optics, handgaurd types & accessories)? If you want a 16" flatop upper with a quad rail type setup and some flip up sights you will be in the majority of what most people are buying these days, and there are several options out there. Shorter barreled uppers are available as well from many of the same manufacturers.
Start here with a few of these, but keep in mind you will want accessories and then the prices start going up quickly: PSA Spikes Tactical Delton ADCO Rock River Arms DSA |
