I just looked at a Trijicon reflex on an ar-15 and this did seem far better suited to me than other close range optics I have looked at. Alot of negative comments about this type but I do not know why. This one was described to me as being a recient version with a 'smaller' reticle. Any light on this?

Good points: light weight, no batteries.

Bad points: reticle washes out in bright light, mostly when looking from a dark place toward a bright place.

I use a Reflex with a 4 min dot on one of my ARs.  Works great with the limitations noted above.

I still like mine - I just like other optics even more...
