Here are a couple of pics of handguards painted with Norrells OD Green (Mil-spec).

Baked at 300 for 60 minutes, no problems.

Excellent color match.

For those who are trying to match a single original handguard (or the look of worn roiginal handguards), you might pirme it with a brown (something really druable, probably a Krylon Fusion brown that will weld to the plastic) and then spray on the green without baking.  Take some steel wool and rub at the wear points, and then bake.  I bet that would get the worn look with the brown fiberglass underneath pretty good.

Nice job. The color looks like a good match. Did you use an airbrush?

Yes, a Badger 350 using the fine tip per John Norrell.

Hmm, that looks pretty darn close to my 601 HG. Maybe I'll have to try that if I cant find the other half I need. You have an original 601 handguard or stock or PG to compare it to?

I don't have anything right here.  I looked at an original 601 a few weeks back with the intent on purchasing it.  Unfortunately it sold within a few minutes of the listing.  It was only 10 miles from home and the seller allowed me to look at it.  That is when I noticed it was a very close match to mil spec OD.

Those look very good! How did you go about keeping paint off of the heat shields? Did you remove them or painstakingly mask them?

LOL, and new ones at that!

She went out to pick up a few things on Saturday so I told her to pick up some new ones.  You should have seen her eye's when I brought in the HG's to bake them in the oven.

I just masked them up.

A little graffiti remover pulls off any of the glue from the masking when you are done.
