I'm considering different gun finishes for my build that is durable, wears well, and that I can apply myself. Is the Duracoat product pretty good? I'm also considering Brownells Teflon/Moly and their Gun-Kote. Or, should I scap the DIY idea and send my lower/upper to a shop. Thanks for any suggestions/recommendations.

I have been going to try duracoat but I really like the moly resin that I have been using for a little over a year now.  It is easy to apply with a airbrush and bake a 300F for an hour and it seems to wear very well.  If it does start to thin, you can wipe down the area to be sprayed and go right over the top of the old finish.  Viola, looks like new again.  in fact, I just sprayed a buddies OLD ruger MarkI 22 this morning.  it looked like absolute crap but i went over it with Flat Black and I think it is going to turn out pretty good.  I'll know this afternoon when I get it all back together.  John Norrel sells the moly resin at www.molyresin.com I think.  If thats not it, google moly resin.  I've used it on ARs and pistols mainly.  I've coated a couple of Keltec P3ATs that are carried every day in a front pants pocket and they still look like new.  I just finished a 9mm ar in green on the recievers and barrel only, I'll attach a picture but the light is not the best in the pic but you will get the idea.  I started using this stuff after seeing some of Stickmans pictures and projects.  Look at some of his pics and you can get a very good idea of the colors and quality.  Good luck with it and keep us posted.  GS

Thanks for the response. I did find Norrel's website and read more about the moly-resin product line. His customer satisfaction responses helped too. I think I'll give it a try. Post a picture of the Ruger when it's done!
