If I get the serial number off a gun that I want to buy can a FFL dealer track the number and make sure that owner is who I think it is? This is in regards to the gun on Gunbroker.com that I want to buy but the seller has no feedback. Any other ideas to be on the safe side and so I don't get ripped off?? |

Why are you concerned with who the owner is? Do you think it's stolen or something? If your concern is whether the gun is preban or postban, it would help to know the manufacturer and serial number. Gunbroker offers a broker service. It works like this. You send your money to the broker and the seller sends the gun to the broker. When the broker has the gun and the money in his possession he will ship the gun to the buyer's FFL, and send the money to the seller. Of course this service costs extra, and usually the buyer pays for it. Check the Gunbroker website for details. |

What you are looking to do is called a gun trace starting with the manufacturer. Basically, unless your FFL works for the Feds, he's not going to be able to access the bound books of the manufacturer and any FFLs that have touched the gun. Furthermore, the trace runs cold where private party transactions take place. If you worry about it being stolen, you can have your FFL access the NICS system to check. If it clears the pre-check, it will clear the real thing when you pick it up. If it's a high dollar item, you may want to consider an esrow service. Gunbroker talks about that on its site. |

Fuck paypal! Gun Broker is good from what I have read. Use only Postal Money Orders or a credit card. You should get the sellers real name, address, place of work, phone number and email address. You should also do a person look up by address on Yahoo, plus call their work to verify that they actualy work there and call their home to verify that they live there and do an address search on Yahoo. |
