Last weekend added more stuff to my pile of retro parts.  Bought a parts rifle on a Stag Arms lower.  It had a Colt square forged, forward assist upper.  Barrel was marked MV(VP) between front sight base legs and a 12 at the muzzle.  Forged and smooth FSB with no drain hole.  Three prong FH.  C stamped at chamber end.  Early bend stailess gas tube.  Gray parked slip ring.  Non trap door buttstock.  Both front and rear swivels are sans plastic coating.  Haven't stripped off the black paint on the buttstock.  It did come with drain hole handguards.  All A2 parts in the lower.  Did have a Colt GI bolt and carrier, tho.

Thinking about a partial fence lower for this one.  Yay or nay?

Also, I had forgotten to tell you all that my son graduated from Basic Training in late September.  He was issued a Colt A2 but handled two buddies rifles at times.  One was a Hydramatic lower and the other was an H&R.  Still serving after all these years.

Congratulations, but I'm assuming the pictures aren't loading.

 -  I don't believe you have any such upper.  Not without pics.

You got yourself a genuine XM16E1 upper.  1964-1965 vintage.

I suggest you forget about a partial fence lower and ship it to me so that it can be disposed of properly.  What you really want is a tacticool M4 upper with space to mount your flashlights, lazers, microwave ovens, and assorted household appliances.

:)

Sounds like a great score!  I spent 4 hours at the "Collectors" gun show in Houston last month and only found a couple .223 marked 20 round mags :(

It's the earliest version upper I own.  Yes, I know at this point it does not exist.  I will plead nicely with my daughter to show me (again) how to do the picture thing.  It all sounds so simple when she's explaining it, but I still manage to screw it up.  It doesn't help that she recites the instructions in about 13 milliseconds and her fingers are a blur on the keyboard.  Sheesh.

I also picked up two M7 bayonets in the wrap, dated 1989, a pristine mottled grip and like new M56 suspenders.   Yeah, I know, pictures.

Seriously, an MV P - 12 marked barrel is a nice find in itself.  The FSB sounds nice too.  Don't know about the upper receiver itself, but if it is the same vintage, probably a major plus.

I got no advice on what to do with the Stag, but the upper half was a good find.  Is your impression that the seller added the upper for retro-appeal, or was just slapping something together to sell the lower?

Too bad it doesn't exist, because it sounds like a good catch.

A fantasy partial fence lower receiver would be the only way to go for your fantasy XM16E1 upper assembly.

This is all theoretical, right?  It has to be, otherwise there would be pics!    All kidding aside, sounds like a great find!!
