if i wanted to remove my front sight post / gas block and put on a low profile gas block, how much would a gunsmith cost me(estimated)?

Should be for free since it would take about 10 minutes. I would guess 20-30 bucks. Go to the "build it yourself" and learn how to do it, OR got to the VA forum and fing a friend, Good luck

Hmmm...
I'm having a hard time justifying this answer.
If you go to the auto repair shop, do they also do things for free "since it would take about 10 minutes"?

Am I somehow required to do 10 minutes worth of work for free before I start charging?

Having said all that, it's really more like a 1 minute job and it's quite common that I do install them for free IF the part is purchased from me and you are standing in my shop.

It takes more than 10 minutes to un-pack an upper that's sent in, read through the order form, pack it up afterwards and then do the shipping and invoicing for the part.
I generally charge $10 to pop off a front sight base.
Putting on a gas block purchased from me is generally free, but it's usually combined with other services that require a complete tear-down of the upper such as barrel profiling, threading or installing a railed handguard system...
In these cases, there is no extra charge because the "tear-down and rebuild" charge covers everything.
