[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Gunsmithing License

Do you have to have a gunsmithing/FFL to build an AR-15 or is that just for the mfgr on the parts themselves?

There is not a Gunsmithing FFL. If you intend to build a rifle to sell you have to have a Manufacturers license.

If you are going to build one for yourself you do not need a license.

You cannot build rifles to sell with a standard type 01 dealers license.

To build for yourself, no license is needed.

Roger, if I want to build to sell I have to have a gunsmithing license AND a FFL. If I just want to resell I can get away with just a FFL. What if I want to machine,etc my own parts from scratch? What if I build a gun for myself and 5 years down the road I want to sell it? Sorry for all the new guy questions.

send your pets to a buddies house for a few weeks and call the ATF and ask your questions. This is the kind of info you dont want to get 2nd hand.

If you want to build to sell you have to have an 07 FFL this is a license to manufacture.
