I have had a Bushmaster A2 Shorty Ak sitting in my safe for several years but have never been interested in shooting it. Now I want to start using it and found out I am having trouble seeing the front sight. I am a senior (68) and have tried different glasses but still have problems. I want to put some type of optic on it with a forward mount that will co-witness with the sights. I think a reflex type will suit me the best as I hate looking through a tube. I am retired and don't have a lot of money to spare so I can't afford the top of the line optics. Anyone have any suggestions? |

This is the first one I can think of C-more Systems - Scout rail Runs about $300 for everything, including the mount ![]() ![]() The Trijicon Reflex is significantly more money. You could pick this ARMS mount for $130 bucks and then put an inexpensive red dot on the rail. ProMag also makes a $70 mount for your needs, but you'd need to research what optic will fit this system. ![]() Don't forget about Midwest Industries A2 mount for about $120. This one is sweet because you can vertically align your red dot by adjusting the mount instead of the optic. That's perfect if your optic doesn't want to co-witness easily. ![]() BSA makes a cheap "open style" red dot optic that may mount on any of the above rails. Pentax makes one too. You may also want to consider the JP Enterprises JPoint. It's more expensive at $250, but very durable as it normally sits atop recoiling pistol slides. ![]() I know you're short on funds, but in my opinion I'd try to find the combination that has the highest quality at the fairest price. That said, I'd recommend the above Midwest Industries A2 rail with a S.P.O.T. optic. I know it's a tube, but it is probably the best compromise for the money and coming the closest to the kings of the mountain, Aimpoint and Eotech. It comes with a mount designed for a flattop, but it can be removed and replaced with any 30mm scope ring
