I have had my Stag Model 1 for about a year and want to start adding to it.  So first I thought I would put a FF handguard on it.  I'm no gunsmith and would like to get a decent one that I could install myself.  I was looking at the Daniel Defense Omega Rail 7 Carbine?  How are these?  Is this a good place to start?  Anyone have any other recommendations?  Any info on the Stag rail from their website?

Side note:  I bought it swearing I would just keep it plane and not add to it.  Seeing all the setups on here havs changed my mind....this could get expensive!

I do not own an omega rail so I cant speak from personal experience, but from what I have heard they are the best drop in free float rail system and very sturdy.

I own an Omega 9.0 on my Midlength, and it is a very nice rail, installs quickly and easily (end user only needs to provide a standard slotted screwdriver for installation) and is solid once installed per the instructions. Installation was 5-10 minutes, which included locating my screwdriver.

Another option unless you're dead-set on free floating your barrel, would be a Knights M4 RAS drop in. IIRC these are very solid as far as drop in rails are concerned. Same thing with the M5 RAS (rifle length).

I just ordered a DD Omega the other day based on recommendations from lot's of people here.  I can't wait to see if it will shrink my groups a little.

The Troy MRF-DI is a great drop in rail.  Not FF, but affordable at around $140 and probably the tightest lock up I've seen on non-FF rails.

I love mine.

This is what the Daniel Defense Omega drop in free float rail looks like up close (between the rail and the end cap). Notice that it doesn't touch at all and is free floated.

I just put it on yesterday in literally less than 10 minutes and it is solid and light weight - 8 oz.

You don't have to modify anything...no cutting off the delta ring.

+1 on Daniel Defense Omega.  Here's a 9 inch on a Middy Armalite.  Very solid and light weight for its length.
