I'm embarrassed to ask, but since this is my first build, I don't want to screw it up. I'm quite positive I'm going to go with this barrel because I don't think I'm legally allowed to buy anything shorter because I'm in Massachusetts.

Rainier Arms 5.56 Select 16" Barrel

What size mid length tactical handguard would I go with? I see that Bravo Company has a bunch of different Tactical Hanguard Options and I'm a bit confused.

Thanks,

Chris

Good question, Chris.  The best way to gauge handguards is by their length.  A 9" model will fit just behind your mid-length gas block.  A 12" model will cover the gas block, if its the low-profile type.  Personally, I like a smooth tube with a fixed rail on top, like the Midwest Industries SS gen 2 model pictured below.  "Quad rails" are passe, IMO.  I also prefer a 9" HG that leaves my clamp-on GB exposed out in front (my 9-incher weighs only 7.2 oz including the steel barrel nut).  That way I can remove and reinstall the gas block and tube without (or before) removing the handguard. - CW

If I choose the 12", which I do like a lot, that means I'll need a low profile gas block no?

By the way, that is a sharp looking rail you have!
