How thick is the piece of metal behind the FSB that the handguards fit into?  Sorry, but I can't remember what this piece is actually called.  Thanks

Thanks bhouse but I actually had something else in mind.  I am puting on a low pro gas block and troy alpha rail and I need to know how much space to leave between the gas block and the shoulder so I get the gas hole lined up properly.  I would just throw my calipers on it but I left the handguard cap at home and I'm 4 hours away.  Thanks

Get a paper clip and bend a small section at the very end to 45degrees.  Slide it into the gas block so that the section hangs into the hole and then mark the length with a fine sharpy marker.  Then put the hook in the gas port and mark where the shoulder of the barrel is that the FSB sat against.

Measure the difference and you are set.

Take the screws out of your low pro gas block.  Slide it into place and spin it upside down.  If the gas port is fully visible through the rearmost screw hole with the gas block seated against the shoulder, you're good to go.  If not, slide it forward until it is.
