Is it normal for the finish on the heat shield to flake off? Is the finish on the heat shield paint or is it parkerizing?  Mine is cracking and chipping off.

probably parts from a cheap vendor. possibly spraypaint? i have bushmaster handguards and none have ever "flaked" apart.

The heat shields in side the HG’s are made from aluminum so park is out of the question. Like eklikwhoa said, sounds like you got some cheap copy, or if they’re used, a previous owner painted them.
