Why do some do this and other don't? I just put a new barrel on and I have tried 3 different sets and they all wiggle? I know if not going to hurt anything but it bugs the heck out of me. What part is causeing the movement? the front cap?
I thought the rear handguard grips onto the barrel nut to prevent movement? thanks. |

Back end grabs onto the nut spines, while the front cap is only friction retained between the barrel shoulder and FSB (gas tube going through helps to stabilized the cap somewhat as well.
New/tight, the standard hand guard is somewhat stationary, but after a few guards pulls, it to the fixed points do have some slop. Really, the only time it's a problem is if you are attaching something like a vertical hand grip, and here from the grip pressure, you do more harm in regards to twisting the barrel from shot to shot than good (degrade accuracy). If you are looking to attach items to the hand guard, then find one that does float Independently from the barrel so you do not disturb the natural barrel harmonics. |
