How big of a deal is not having the tabs to keep the handguard from rotating?

It totally depends on the design of the rail and how it is affixed to the barrel nut. There is no way to answer the question without specifics.

Between these two or getting another UTG Pro which has the tabs.

Won't make any difference. Get what you want.

It can make difference.  If the rail is struck, it can shift.  That throws off the accuracy of a rail mounted front sight.

It will not have a rail mounted front sight.  Only thing it might have is a bipod.

Get Aero Quantum. They have the tabs, and will fit billet uppers. It's $109 (15") with a nut, and they run them on sale all the time.

I'll say buy the utg pro with confidence. It's a superb product for next to nothing. I've used 3 of them and they exceeded expectations every time.

Exile machine sells them cheap

I have heard good things about Rousch... and our dog is named Roush (like the car) so it would be kind of neat that way.

They look nice, I might have to check into them.  I do like the slant cut on the Matrix, it is probably my top pick right now.  Just going on a plain ol' forged upper.

How much are they in the 15" flavor?

I don't want to sign up for their spam list just to see prices.  I have one on my other rifle and have no complaints about it, just up for trying something different.

I have 2 Rousch handguards.  I tend to like very simple stuff, but they're really junk.  The coating is exceptionally poor, and the aluminum is very soft.  Now, I'm pretty sure all of my handguards are listed as 6061 aluminum, but the Rousch handguards take scratches a lot easier than the others, if that matters to you.

Tab or no tab should really not matter.  However, for sake of argument, I'd like to hear of some stories of "no-tab" handguards being properly torqued and set up, and knocked out of position.  I'm interested at this point, as I'm not aware of this scenario.  Sure, it's a good "what-if" scenario, but I'd like to hear of it being problematic.
