What are the primary advaatges of FF rails? I am trying to decise if it is worth getting them over standards, What are you guys opinions?

Some advantages of FF rails are they weight less, more solid than 2 pc handguards, keep pressure off the barrel, etc.

Downside is they're harder to install (w/ saying harder I mean you need to have the right tools and hope you don't have a perm. attached FH).  Also many ff rails cost more than the 2 pc handguards.

If this is not a duty rifle or anything, and weight does not concern me, would non FF serve my purpose? I would like to evetually mount a light and laser on them, as well as
a vert grip, would this be ok?

thanks

You are behind the times as there are more than few no special tools required FF rails nowdays, which don't require the removal of the FSB or perm FS to be installed.

Check the MI button above.

No chance of POI changing no matter what you hang off a FF tube.

Non FF don't have this option.

Well I didn't mention MI or TROY rails but mr_wilson is right.  My post was concerned more w/ KAC, DD, Larue, etc.  1 pc. ff rails.

rigid VFGs, rigid accessory mounting, accessory mounting in general and a free floated barrel. Free floated barrels have forever been the corner stone of accurate rifles be they semi or bolt action. It makes good sense all the way around.

Free Float!
Every time!
No exceptions!
It's not at all necessary at close range, but it hurts nothing if you also use a down grip for the times it's very hot or very cold.

There are NO downsides to FF tubes except a little extra cost.  (and that's as little as $25 extra, but sometime much more)  If you mount a rail at the 6:00 position for down-grips and lights,  it will cost about another $20 on a standard FF tube.

Which tubes don’t need any special tools to install? I am wanting to install one on my M-15a4. With one of the ones mentioned do I need to get a vice, wrench, and a set of punches?

Each style system takes different tools.

Some don't require removal of the barrel from the receiver, IF you are comfortable witha  Dremel cut-off tool being used in close proximity to your receiver.

Troy, Samson, MI and GG&G fit into this category.

All other freefloat systems require the barrel nut to be removed.

It's cheaper to pay my $40 tear-down and rebuild charge than to buy the tools for a single handguard swap.
That nominal charge also gets you the warm & fuzzy feeling of knowing that your upper is assembled as good as it can be.
I do find problems from time-to-time and make note of them so the customer can correct them or have me fix them.

For a no special tool required installation and a rock solid rail system.  Troy Industries is a good choice.  There are more out there but I have no first hand experience with them.  Someone wil chime in on the others but my Troy is Rock Solid and took about 15 minutes to install with hand tools and a dremel.  I would not hesitate to buy another Troy

The KAC RASII is a two piece FF rail that doesn't even require removal of the delta ring and standard tools are all that is needed.
Not piling on, just stating that there is another entry.

The only thing saving you is that you put an Aimpoint on that hump.
Otherwise, it's FUGLY.
