Which do you guys prefer?  I'll be building an AR15 most likely at around Christmas time, and can't decide between the two.

I would probably opt for a flat top with a detachable carry handle so you'll have options down the road. I like the simplicity of the A2 but, it does limit you choices if you decide to mount optics later on. In true ARFCOM fashion, build both!

If you don't plan on mounting a scope/red dot sight anytime soon, get the flat top (rail top) with a detachable carry handle.

If you do plan on mounting a scope, forego the carry handle altogether and just get a backup rear sight.

+1 for flat top.

Aside from collector's value / nastalgia I don't see why someone wouldn't buy a flat top.  The weight is negligible and a rail on top provides so many more options for sights/optics/nightvision/etc

+1 for Flat top.

Even If I were to build a 2nd or 3rd upper, I always go flat top, but thats just me. You got more versatility with a flat top vs. the fixed old school carry handle.

I concur with this.

Flat top. Especially if it's your first. Many more options with a flat top. I'm going to build an A2 for nostalgia and simplicity. But I already have several flat tops.
