Dumb question I'm sure, but I can't find the answer. I bought a Adams Arms upper from westernsportonline.com and they were out of the carbine tactical option, so I got their base carbine but with a freefloat DD omega 7" rail. I get it and notice this round piece of metal up near the gas block (yes, I'm a AR-15 noob and this is my first AR build) and I'm trying to figure out what it is for. I finally find some websites that say it is used to hold a regular old handguard in place.
My question is can I remove it? Here is a picture of it:
If you'll notice there is a small space between the rail and the gas block that the piece is taking up, is that a problem if I remove it? Maybe I should say why i want to remove it. The DD rail has low profile side rails and this piece gets in the way of sliding things onto the rail, such as a rail cover (temporary maybe). Thanks |

Yes you can remove it. it is currently working to keep the gas port/front sight the proper distance from the barrel shoulder. With the spacer gone and the gas block all the way back, the gas port may not align properly.
If you take the gas block off to remove it, be careful with the reinstalled position. If you zip it off with a dremel, you should be fine because that wont move the block. |
