| There have been several threads on this topic, I can say that just about any semi or full auto rim fire rifle is prone to a occasional OBD. If you shoot it enough with a variety of ammo you will find that tight round or something don't line up right and BANG. It will happen, rim fire ammo is dirty and all over the map for size plus a dirty gun don't help. I've had several draw blood from my right hand and actually had a chunk of brass sticking out of my forehead. I shoot a few more rim fire rounds than the average Joe, my best guess 4-5 OBD's per year from everything I shoot including dedicated and rim fire conversion, AR15/M15, AC556, 10-22, American 180, AK/WASR.22, Thompson/.22 and various conversion and dedicated pistols. Total rds of rim fire in a year 125,000 to 150,000. |

I've never had a OBO in my old Nylon 66 - 1965 vintage and my first firearm. That said I once had a round OBO in my Armalite AR-7 .....do not cup the mag in your hand when shooting any magazine fed weapon. Hand had funny black marks and hurt like heck for a few days. Had a few OBO's with Cieners and with dedicated uppers - the BDMs didn't miss a beat. My friend destroyed a DPMS mag in his DPMS upper - the Colt and DPMS mags do not like OBOs. |

One thing that concerns me is that I recently had an OBD in my 10/17 and am wondering if maybe I should put a stronger spring in it? Thanks for your reply. |

Keep your chamber clean. I use a .243 Brass Brush bent the length of a .22LR Cartridge and some Eezox (any CLP will do). I don't use a Boresnake bacuase I don't clean the bores on my .22LR's- I let the bullets which are lubed and waxed do that. I do clean the bolt, receiver, and CHAMBER of the barrel. Occasionally, while drunk  I've been known to clean the bore of a FA .22 barrel. .22LR is cheap and fun to shoot.

2) ammo: CCI Stinger 3)Unsure how far, but entire rim blew off and bullet lodged in barrel 4)No damage to kit, just a stuck case that was easily removed with .22 jag and rod. 5)Approx 500 plus rounds through kit, was 1st round of second mag of the day that blew. Peppered my hand and forearm. |
| No OOB with my stock Ciener kit (thousands of rounds). The kit didn't care much for Remington ammo and the Ciener mags suck. I had one mag in four that worked, and that was after a trip back to Ciener for a tune up. A Ciener kit with BDM would be nice, but I went to the S&W 15/22 instead. |
| I have a conversion for my AR... while i was out shooting today I had a couple rounds that wouldn't fire.. after investigation i noticed that my coversion was " stuck" in my barrel... from the lead deposits.. after i got it out and examined it.. i noticed there was Crack the lenght of the steel .223 round at the end of the conversion that would go in the barrel... which is where the lead deposits were coming from.. so my question to all of you is .. has anyone had this problem.. should i stop using my conversion.. will it cause any problems ? Ill try to post pictures tomorrow. |

Happened a day or so ago while a friend was shooting it. I retained the case as a curiosity,since I've never had a .22 OOB before.

2) CCI mini mag HP 3) case was OOB by about 1/8" 4) Did any damage occur to the kit? no 5) Approximate number of rounds fired through the kit - 200 In defense of Spike's, I called them about the malfunction and they quickly diagnosed the problem and corrected it at no charge. The Chamber adapter was one of their first production runs and was slightly out of spec due to a tight chamber caused by their chrome plating. I new updated chamber adapter was sent and the kit functions with zero malfunctions after 2000 rounds of CCI mini mags through it. |

I have had good results curing feeding problems by running a wool bore mop saturated with JB Bore Paste powered by my electric drill into the chambers of my conversion units and after market name brand 10/22 barrels until the chamber is polished. This usually only takes about a minute at moderate speed. This process also reduces chamber fouling. Some of the conversions also have very rough bores after the chamber. The JB treatment for the entire length helps these a lot.
I also break the entry edge of the chamber - just slightly. If it is sharp it can catch the case. Just for the record; I have been shooting rimfires for more than fifty years and doing what it takes to make them reliable for most of that time. |

Upon further examination, I noticed the magazine I was using has a cracked feed lip that had opened about 1/16". I wanted to verify it was the magazine, and repeated the OOB after a couple shots. My other mags ran perfectly, so it was definitely magazine related. No damage to the gun or me. Both bullets cleared the barrel and did not lodge. I did have a piece of brass lodge between the extractor and bolt face. Other than that, the gun was running again within a couple minutes. I think I am going to start replacing my all plastic mags with the new BDM steel feed lip mags. If anything, they load a heck of a lot easier. |

Diddnt measure it 4) Did any damage occur to the kit? no 5) Approximate number of rounds fired through the kit? 2-300. This happened to me years ago. Was firing a Colt Commando carbine with a Ciner .22 conversion using the ciner steel 30 round mags and CCI mini mags. No damage to the weapon or conversion kit. Unnerved my friends though. I just removed the magazine, cleaned out the upper, checked out the bore, put it back together and then kept shooting.

My friend was shooting my AR, I was sitting to his right.
1) Stock CMMG kit 2) Remington (Peters) Brown bi-mart box with a duck on it. 
3)3/8" , about 1/3 of the casing. 4)No damage to the kit, But a piece of the casing went about an inch into my arm. Dr. wouldn't dig it out at the ER. 5) Unknown round count, Used kit when I got it, No heavy signs of wear though.

There is no specific thread for Tactical Solutions uppers however the probable causes for the OOB will likely be the same.
Round doesn't feed completely into chamber and rim is hit by firing pin causing ignition out of battery, possible causes are. Dirty firing pin channel, defective firing pin spring or firing pin stuck sticking through bolt face. Rough/dirty chamber inhibiting feeding where rounds doesn't get completely into the chamber. Peened barrel from repeated strikes from firing pin with no rounds in chamber. Stove pipe jam where spent cartridge is caught by closing bolt and keeping bolt from going completely closed when trigger is pulled. Inadequate recoil impulse for hammer to catch and hammer follows bolt down and ignites chambered round before cartridge is completely in the chamber. Cartridge out of spec and doesn't easily or completely go into chamber.. Extractor and cut out in breach face are out of spec preventing the extractor from snapping over the cartridge rim, bolt stops slightly out of battery and trigger is pulled. Weak recoil spring, not enough spring pressure to ensure bolt completely chambers every cartridge or shooting standard velocity or low pressure round which doesn't generate enough recoil impulse to completely feed the next round. Defective or over loaded magazine putting to much pressure on the bottom of bolt through firing sequence and slowing bolt speed/momentum where bolt fails to completely close. Bolt is dragging on bolt stop or snagging on notched hammer where bolt momentum is siphoned off enough to inhibit bolt from closing completely on a chambered round. There may be more reasons but you get the idea. |

I did some grinding per instructions from CMMG but not much. 2) Federal or WInchester bulk 3) Maybe 1/2 centimeter 4) No damage 5) Less than 1000 Details: I would like to add that my OOB's were not caused by the Ciener kit but by the BHOA. To get the the BHOA to reliably work I had to adjust it to the point where it would prevent the bolt from completely closing. I only noticed this when I went to the range and had several OOB's in one day. I called CMMG and they offered several solutions but ultimately the problem was not solved and I returned the BHOA and mags for a refund. CMMG was very nice and tried to help but it just wouldn't work in my AR for some reason. |

I finally had my first OOB discharge EVER. Luckily it was only with .22lr ammo and no one was injured.
1) Stock Ciener unit 2) Winchester Xpert bulk ammo 3) approx 1/16" was the gap 4) No damage - all I had to do was pry out the casing with my pocket knife 5) I've shot countless rounds out of the unit (a couple bricks at least). Today, the OOB occured within 4 rounds or so. I had 3 OOB's from the same magazine. What was interesting was that the first half magazine was loaded with bulk Federal red box ammo. Those rounds fired fine. When I started to shoot with the Winchester, I first encountered a failure to fire (the hammer was not being cocked). This wasn't anything new, as the Federal ammo would do the same on occasions. After the first FTF, I pulled the charging handle back and got the hammer back. Within 2 rounds I heard a different sounding shot and out of the corner of my eye I also saw some metallic fragments fly out from the right side of the gun. I knew exactly what I had - and when I turned the gun to the right, I saw the first OOB. I didn't think too much of it, so I cleared it. After another 3 shots, the same thing happened - and another OOB. I again cleared that one. I kept on shooting, and within the next 4 rounds, I had my 3rd OOB. That's when I called it quits and did not shoot anymore out of the conversion unit. I put the original BCG into the upper and shot a mag full of .223 without a hiccup. |

I had just purchased the Better-Mag magazine adapter and was function checking the S&W M&P 15-22 magazines with my CMMG dedicated upper. After the first 4 strings of 10 rounds of fire, I wanted to check if I could use the magazine as a mono-pod and not have any failure to feeds. On the 3rd round of me using the magazine as a mono-pod, I pulled the trigger and the ignition of the powder felt different with smoke being emitted from the back of the upper receiver by the charging handle. I strip the magazine from the rifle and the entire rim of the 22lr round falls out on to the shooting bench. I break the AR down and I can see the remainder of the 22LR case still in the chamber. There was enough of the case protruding behind the chamber for a pair of pliers to clear it out of the chamber. After a quick function check, I continued firing 57 more trouble free rounds and did not continue using the magazine as a mono-pod. |
