I have read the headspace info posted in this section, is there a way to get a good headspace check on a new build without taking the bolt apart ?

Please help me out here, I can't believe the military takes every bolt apart to check headspace, someone has to be an armoror out there that knows a trick or two.

If it's a new barrel and new bolt, I wouldn't sweat it.

IIRC, the military only checks headspace every two years.

A few years ago I bought a military headspace gage (field service) from someone here on AR-15.com who was selling them. The rear end of the gauge is milled down so you don't have to remove the extractor, works great!
