I recently completed my build on my AR15 rifle. It also happens to be my first gun. My question to the community here is: Will it be necessary to check for head space on my rifle given that I have a 16" Palmetto State Armory 5.56 Barrel (with M4 feed ramps) and a spikes tactical F/A BCG (both are milspec and MPI etc)?
Thank you in advance, Nick |

The safest answer, of course, is to check it.
However, if your parts, specifically your bolt and barrel extension are to print, and coming from reputable manufacturers/sources, they should be, then you'll be OK. AR-15 headspace is set when the barrel extension is installed on the barrel so a quality barrel assembly is the primary determinant of your headspace. With a CL barrel, if your headspace was out, your only options to fix it are new bolt or new barrel...depending on which was not to print. Probably more effective than measuring headspace on new weapons is to check it on used weapons using a field gage. |

Checking headspace is a basic safety practice.
PSA has put parts out the door that were visibly off. A person cannot tell headspace is off by eye. AFAIK PSA and Spikes fix their problems, but it seems easier all around to catch a headspace problem before assembly. As stated previously the chances of having a problem are small, but it does happen. |

Most likely you are fine. Both PSA and Spikes are established and reputable, and their parts should be safe together. If you are concerned, definitely have the headspace checked, but there is only the smallest of chances for a problem with that combination. +1, but I always check the headspace on a new build or bolt change as a precaution. |
