Colt 14.5" upper pinned to 16" here if you want to see it. It's a brand new Colt barrel, slightly used BCM BCG.

It closes on Clymer 5.56 Go (1.4636) gauge, does not close on Clymer 5.56 (1.4696) no-go gauge. It will close on .223Rem Clymer no-go (1.4666). Is this a problem? Can I still drop in the occasional .223 round? It also won't close on the Colt maximum headspace guage (1.4736), obviously. It is safe to shoot, right?
I guess I should mention I have a new Spikes BCG I can try, and I also have a new BCM bolt I can drop into the BCM BCG and try again, what would you do?

Anyone with experience checking headspace on a Colt?

You will be fine the chamber tolerances are slightly different for 5.56 than they are for .223. My .223 no go goes into battery same as yours but my .223 field gauge does not go into battery. I shoot both 5.56 and .223 never had a problem

thanks, that's what I figured, I don't have a field guage for either caliber I have BCM's SS Ionbond barrel with a 5.56 "NATO Match" chamber, and it won't close on the .223 no go, so I thought I'd ask. Nothing match-grade about this barrel from Colt.

You're good if it doesn't close on the colt max gauge. That's what I use to check all of mine with.
