If I replace a bolt carrier do I need to check the head space? I just got a new bolt carrier for a used upper with its orig bolt, and it is pretty tight in there. Haven't got my lower in (should be in tomorrow), so I haven't fired it yet. Any advice would be great!

Bolt carrier?  No sweat.  The carrier itself has zero impact on headspace.

Now if you replaced the bolt itself, that's possibly different.  In general a new bolt will be just fine with an old barrel and vice versa.  But if you're concerned, there's no harm in using a headspace gauge to verify that your old barrel isn't beyond safe use.

I'm pretty sure that even army rifle that shoot hundreds of thoundsands of rounds rarely have to throw out barrels because of headspace.

Set it and forget....headspace is 99% a non-issue   [if it blows up...not my fault] :)

Not sure I would go as far as hundreds of thousands of rounds ?

I would guess the climate ( sand , muddy , etc. ) would have some bearing on how fast the bolt / barrel interface wears , as well as chamber / throat wear ?  And how well it was kept clean ?

Let's be safe out there .

God bless

We throw the equipment away or destroy it when we leave a war zone anyway. They say it's cheaper that way.
My first issue M16 was a POS, worn out leftover but we were still there. I was told a Second Lt had it before me.
What'd we used to say about the life expectancy of a 2nd Lt. in combat? How many seconds?
I never figured out how he wore it out so fast.
