| What type of electronic protection do you guys use? |
|
I have some Howard Leight's but they hurt my ears after a long range session. They work good, just squeeze my ears too much.
Has anyone ever tried these? (the free 30 day trial at least?) Soundgear you should be sitting down when you see the price
but they are on sale on the NRA store website. |

Well,
I use either the Howard lights thunder 29's or the orange max plugs I have about 5-6 pair floating around...and a couple boxes of the orange thingies... A bit off topic... Saving my hearing is good...but, when you really need to use a weapon have you experienced the noise levels and can you handle it? Shoot an ar in your house once...wicked... Just sayin if you don't know what to expect will you startle or compromise your abilities after this... I've shot lots of times without hearing protection...who in the 80's had electronic ears...and you sure didn't wear earplugs on your tree stand... I've also shot from inside my house many times...last time was for a large opossum with my glock...the thing wanted to come into the dining room... Anyhow, Just food for thought. Bret |

What's that I cant hear you! :)
Seriously, I use the Howard Leight I think the Thunder 29's if i remember the model number But, I have many times shot a few rounds without ears for various reasons. Ears are great but, everyone should hear the crack of an ar in a house...Let alone auto fire in a parking structure...OUCH! But, I'll say that seriously if your going to use any gun for home defense or protection of any kind you should at least get a feel for how loud it is...Else you may be verrrrry surprised...and that isn't a good thing... No to say shoot your AR in the house...But I'm going to tell you if you haven'y heard it...It will take you off your A game for sure... I'm sure there are plenty of LE MIL and Contractors here that will tell you it need a bit getting used to hear something like that and not be stunned... Even my Glock is plenty loud in the house... A friends son was over here when on leave a couple years ago... Just an army grunt...Diesel Mech...But he jumped out of his skin when we were shooting from the dining room table out the patio doors...Hey we even got a yote that night...Damn things can't stay off the range...An my buddy was so hoping that yote would go investigate one of the tanerite clusters...But it wasn't that dumb. Back on story he's never been in a real firefight especially in an enclosed space...but has been through basic and can soot an ar well...But the crack in a house or enclosed structure is unlike you can imagine... Anyhow, Just food for thought... Bret P.S. Yep the other half was not here for the dining room ar fest...But she was here for Glock Fest 2012...OK and a few other mid day sight this in and it too cold out sessions...Anyhow we had most of the brass swept up before she got home(forgot under the couches and chairs though...Then we were onto scotch... |

Supreme Pro-X, MSA
I shoot Highpower with a service rifle, no problem with cheek weld in any position I shoot long range target, no problem with cheek weld with my palma rifle. ditto with my GAP tactical rifle. I work as a shooting instructor, sometimes eight hour days. this product with the gel cups is comfortable all day. when I"m teaching with small bore just the muffs. when we are using AR's AK's and the .50 I wear plugs and muffs. I wear both at matches- the volume adjustment and sound reproduction of the supreme pro x allows me to adjust to hear range commands. |

FWIW, forty years of killing elk and I never noticed the sound of the shot. of course, that's outside.and a lot of them with a bow. |
