Heavyweight AR's to me are 10 pounds and up or guns that look lightweight but really weigh more than a 7 pound Lightweight. Mine looks Lightweight but its 9.5 pounds loaded according the an AR weight calculator. Lets see your Heavyweight AR15's ETA: Will take pic with my variable optic that I am going hunting with which should bring it up to 10.5. 10.4 with scope and riser |

Quoted: http://i39.tinypic.com/2942wky.jpg My heaviest AR carbine is a Colt 6721 with 16", medium contour, midlength gas system, LaRue 9" FF rails, EOTech, EMOD stock, Surefire M961C weaponlight loaded with 30 rd PMAG weights 11 lb (10 lb unloaded). http://i53.tinypic.com/2ykjgd1.jpg Next slightly lighter is my other Colt 6721 HBAR 16" carbine gas system, KAC M4 RAS rails, AFG1, Aimpoint, IMOD stock, and Surefire M951C weaponlight loaded weights 10.5 lb (9.5 lb unloaded) Weights are from my digital postal scale, these are my precision carbines that I don't carry much but my most accurate firearms, for home defense and SHTF I have two Colt 6920 carbines (about 9 lb loaded). The weights of my two heavy carbines are not that bad considering that my father carried a 19 lb Browning BAR M1918A2 rifle when he was with the US Army 11th Airborne in the Pacific WW2 war. |

I knew I would see some basic carbines that weigh more than 10 lbs. Quoted:

My HBAR carbine which is the bottom pic under the handguard 0.950" OD from the chamber to the middle of the handguard, then 0.845" OD from the middle of the handguard to the FSB. They're heavyweights but at least they're accurate both MOA to sub MOA using precision loads. |

Yikes
I will accept weight for a reason , the 308 guns are going to spin the scale of course and my RRNM service is about 13 or 14 lbs but that includes the butt weight . For a walking around gun I really don't want all that junk. Different strokes and all that |

For a walking around gun I really don't want all that junk. Different strokes and all that I'm a big fan of lightweight as well, but most of these don't look like they have much junk - no lasers, fake peq/fake suppressors, outrageous lights, etc. it's easy for the weight to add up unless you make it a point to keep it light |

If it is, I never expected to see Bushnell/UTG stuff on it. |

Quoted: My heaviest. A tad under 10lbs without the suppressor. It wears a KX3 now. http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj549/donaldcox35w/Noveske/cb15222ad8c6922c37de3db2416b0393.jpg |
| The light weight rifles I've handled felt nice and snappy but I do not care for the front heaviness a lot of them have. Even at over 10 pounds my rifle does not feel heavy to me. It feels like I'm holding something solid, it kicks like a kitten and the extra weight of the ubr keeps the front up easier. Loaded my rifle is perfectly balanced though it does feel a little long sometimes at 16"s. I'd love to SBR it one day but for now I see no other reason to do anything to it. |

Why in the world would I do that? I don't just shoot from a bench. The only time I do is shooting groups or sighting in. Even then I prefer prone. I've walked most the day with it quite a few times but I have neither the need or desire to run 2 miles with it. Its a hobby gun were it a fighting gun i'm sure it would be a different story. Even then the only thing i'd change is the stock but in its current configuration the stock makes it much more comfortable for me to shoot standing and greatly decreases fatigue on my left arm by shifting the point of balance towards the rear. Also I'm not a couch potato. I work construction full time (flooring, everything I touch at work is heavy) , work out and run about 50 miles a week. If the circumstances required it (someones life would have to be on the line) and I had to run with my gun I'm sure between my level of fitness and the shear amount of adrenaline i'd be feeling, 2 miles with a 10lb gun wouldn't be a huge deal. |

Under the handguards is a solid steel tube freefloat and in the buttstock I added a multitude of 230gn .45ACP fmj bullets for an overall balance point just behind the delta ring. 13 lbs http://www.danpassaro.com/img/s3/v7/p34502222-4.jpg That's a clean looking rifle! Have any pics of the free float under the hand guards? |

Below is a picture of what the US Army Marksmanship uses, but the above poster's is probably the same without the lightening holes and maybe he has the gas tube with the different bend towards the front, but you get the idea. or you can just google, "DCM tube"

I think I'll end up trading the Yankee Hill rail for a Fortis eventually.
