I have a buddy that has a Colt A2 Shooter II about 12-13 years old with a 20" barrel, with no internal modifications.  He bought it brand new and from the get go he put a hellfire trigger system on it.  He has fired 10000+ rounds of clean ammo through it with the hellfire and 3000+ without it.  Since he has taken the hellfire off it will "bump fire" without even trying.  From the shoulder with no effort.  The problem: The bolt assembly will get stuck every 6-9 rounds.  It's not the magazine catching it.  The gummier it gets the better it works (the cleaner it is the more often it happens).  We can't figure it out.

Next week we're going to try a different upper, bolt carrier, trigger assembly to see what the deal is.  Has anyone ever had this problem?

Sounds like it's time to replace the fire control group. I think your disconnecter is worn, possibly the sear as well. If you change the FCG you should be good to go.

The Colt rifle has a fail-safe system that when the disconnector fails, the carrier is stopped before the bolt will lock up (hammer catches the firing pin collar).

As pointed out, it's time to service the fire control group.

Well he got 13000 out of the trigger group. Lucky guy to be shooting that much!

OP, if you're inclined, take some pics of the worn parts and post em.
