My name is Woody.  New to AR platform.  First off, this is a great site.  Impossible to put a measurement on the amount of knowledge here.  Especially thankful for the patience that the folks here show for one another and answering questions from the newbies like myself.  I live in WA, north of Spokane on the good side of the state, the right side.  Getting ready to build my first AR-15.  Getting ready to retire and needing something to do to spend the Social Security checks on.  What better way to stick it to the man than spending the money he sends me on building weapons he doesn't want me to have?  It doesn't hurt that I have the best wife a man could have who indulges me when I get a wild hair up my ass.  Anyway, looking for to learning all I can from the great people here, and hoping not to ask too many dumb questions.

Welcome!! If you are getting ready to retire then you will need to buy 10 of each part to keep you busy!! Building them is actually really easy, especially if you have the right tools. I built my first lower on the table while watching TV. Just keep reading everything this site has to offer and then keep reading more. Do the research and ask questions and your end result will be better than you expected, while saving money at the same time. I bought my first AR as a complete rifle and I think now it only has a few of the original parts on it. I bought it before I found AR15.com.

Welcome from the other side of the dirt pile, Woody. Brace yourself for the new addiction. Speaking of which, do you have a budget in mind and any specific purposes for this build? SHTF/home defense, plinking, long-range, not so long-range, all of the above? Looking foward to reading your progress, and get the camera ready. We love our gun porn.

Welcome to the site chief. Glad to hear your wife is understanding because BRD is very costly haha. Definitely looking forward to see what you end up building. As others have said make sure to post pics.

Thank you all for the warm greetings.  Would be more than happy to posts pics of the wife and my soon to be mistress, the dreaded Miss Black Rifle.  I not too tech savy, my take a bit to learn how to post pictures.  I'll look into it.
Planning on buying an 80% lower today while they are still legal.  Got an Adams Arms complete upper in my cart at midway; http://rt1-t.emails.midwayusa.com/r/?id=h7f7faf%2c134e3a1%2c134e3ad&p1=751604&p2=woodylmiller%40att.net.  Thought I might pick up that new heavy duty jig from Modulus and do the milling with my router.
The AR will be used for home defense, plinking, and varmints for the most part.  Got my own range, half a mile of property with a mountain backstop.  Coyotes like to visit once and a while.  I'll have a surprise waiting for them very soon.
Opinions on that Adams Arms upper would be appreciated.
