Guys, I need some help ......

One of my sons installed an ACE SOCOM stock into a RRA lower and the damn thing WILL NOT tighten the last 1/8"! I asked him if he cross-threaded the stock putting it in, and he said that he didn't - he's over 21 and very mechanically inclined, so I believe him

I CANNOT get the damn stock to budge - either tighten or loosen!

I thought that maybe applying some heat (read propane torch) to the lower (re-inforced buffer extension mount) might help - I tried, but no luck.

Should I chuck it in a vice at the re-inforced ring, and use a big stick in the SOCOM handle to apply some leverage?

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

GOT IT!

Used an old rifle stock for leverage and was able to remove the SOCOM stock without damage

Tried a std milspec CAR tube, and was able to thread in all the way by hand, although it was TIGHT

No crossed threads on the stock extension or in the receiver - I think that this is just a case of the notorius tight tolerences on some RRA receivers.

Anyone know the correct tap size for re-cutting the buffer extension threads in the receiver? I have a feeling that if I run a tab through the threads again it will provide enough clearance to properly install the SOCOM stock

Just my 2c, but dont know if I'd do that. Even with the correct thread size tap, there are several GH sizes within a specific thread pitch. Think I'd go with some lube and try a tube back and forth several times until I was happy.

ETA: Thread size is 1 3/16 - 16 UN 3-B special, minor of 1.1212 - 1.1291. Check out biggerhammer.net for the CAD prints.

Thanks!

I just had another (probably dumb) thought - what if I smeared some lapping compound on th receiver extension threads and threaded it in and out a little at a time until I get the fit that I need?

Dumb Idea?

Thanks

Would work, but I'm guessing as you wear through the anodize, it just might be enough at that point. Better to go slow ( too little ) than too much. RRA's is indeed known for their tight fit, but the Ace tube may be playing into it as well. Lap a little, check. Rinse and repeat.

It worked!

LOTS of elbow grease & a little rubbing compound and it threads right in
