Well, I picked this bolt up from a guy at a gun show a few weeks ago and I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the manufacturer by the markings. The M and P appear to be connected. It looks near new, I only paid $30 for it. Threw an extractor spring upgrade kit in it, just want to make sure it's safe to use as a backup. Any knowledge or BS is welcome, Thanks!

The MP marking usually indicates the bolt has been magnetic particle tested.  That typically says it's a quality bolt.  Unfortunately it doesn't automatically say who made it (or who had it made for them).  Any other markings anywhere on the bolt?

Plus, even in China they can stamp "MP" into a bolt that some little fellow in a grass hut wearing flip flops made.  Gotta be cautious about buying things like this at gunshows from some "guy". That goes for GB and Ebay too.

It does look new, but i guess it could be re-finished.

$30 is cheap for a MP tested bolt. They weren't that cheap before the madness

This is what leads me to think it's a Chicom Knockoff, there is a shit ton of them floating around since the "panic"

Either that, or the seller doesn't know about AR's or the current market (which I find harder to believe)

Unless I knew for a fact who made it, I wouldn't trust it.  Especially with my life or with my expensive guns.  Just my 2 cents.

Exactly, been seeing too many "my bolt is broken" threads on here and elsewhere.

How exactly do you tell for a fact who is making what nowadays?

The guy I bought it from was selling a whole bunch of military surplus items and had a box of used bolts he was selling for $30 each. Most of them were pretty worn but this one looked like it was in the best shape. I guess I should have looked at the markings on the others but at the time this one just seemed like a good deal. I def. don't want to put an inferior bolt in my rifle and risk it breaking. Unless I find out that it is a decent bolt I guess it will be a $30 keychain?!? Thanks for the input guys.
