I'm currently in the process of building my first AR, while I was around black rifle's back in my jarhead day's I'm somewhat lost with all the options available today.  Everything for my lower is either here or currently being shipped so now I'm starting to choose my upper components.  Seems like there is alot of good information out there for the majority of parts but barrel options are making my head spin as I see pricing from $120 on gunbroker from no name manufacturers to very expensive match barrels.  Essentially the rifle I'm looking to build for my first will be a fun tactical carbine thats pretty basic.  I'm not looking to cheap out but I'm not looking to spend $500 on a barrel for this either, this will be more of a working rifle that won't be all pretty'd up (at least not this build ).  I'm planning on running a carbine or mid lenth gas system with magpul MOE handguards and a fixed front sight housing, and would prefer a 1:7 twist that is chambered in 5.56 NATO.  Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

BCM, Daniel Defense , Spikes, Rainier Arms, all have great midpriced barrels that would work for you.

Thanks, I stumbled across AR Performance in the equipment exchange here, does anyone have any experience with these?  And I guess what price are midpriced barrels considered, $250-$300?

I have a WOA barrel on my build I just completed. I have the 18 inch SPR 1/7 twist w/midlength gas and .223 wylde chamber. The barrel is amazing. I shot a 10 shot group today using my handloads (still working up the recipe) using 75 grain Hornady match bullets and H-335 powder. The group measured .854 inches with a 3 shot group in there of .154 inches. With a different powder charge I shot a 3 shot group measuring .151 inches. This was at just under 100 yards. WOA are good to go.
