What is it going on & for what purpose? Its going on a Colt 6920. The purpose will be hunting, plinking, and home defense. If the cost is a issue, save up for awhile & keep your eye out for a used Aimpoint. They turn up when guys upgrade & you would be better served bu a quality RDS. Buy once, cry once but in the case of a good used part. You should be smiling! |

Buy once, cry once but in the case of a good used part. You should be smiling! This is really your best option and it is the path that I would recommend. I would rather run nice irons then a cheap red dot even. However, between the three sights you have listed, The Vortex is easily the best of the three and the Barska is easily the worst. |

Sorry, don't mean to complicate matters, but...
I don't have experience with any of the optics listed; but I'm piping in because I'm curious: Have you looked at the Bushnell TRS-25 or the Primary Arms offerings? I do have experience with those budget optics and I've been impressed with their quality for the $$$. That being said, if you are going to put your life in the hands of an optic (home defense) then I also recommend spending the money on a quality red dot. The one I chose was the Aimpoint PRO - which was at my price point.

| I have a vortex strike fire and it is a good sight for hunting and plinking , the sight it self is very rugged and tough I have beat the crap out of mine and I could reccomend it with out issue except for the part about home defense . the aimpoint outshines all the rest with the battery life . you wont be able to turn the strikefire on and leave it on and when things go bump in the middle of the night and your in a state of semi slumber remembering to turn the sight on as slight as it seems can be a big deal. for this very reason I would also vote for iron sights and a good flashlight until you can afford an aimpoint. |

Forget the Barska. I bought one and within a week of fooling with it in the house, the knob was so loose that the dot would not stay illuminated. I should have read the reviews before buying it. I ended up going with a Leatherwood 1-4x24 CMR which is a really nice scope, but may be above your budget. My son just bought a Sight Mark 1x33x24 Ultra Shot and he seems very pleased with it. $99.95 at SWFA. I'm considering getting one and putting it on an angle mount beside the CMR for CQB. It has four different reticles, easily accessed with the on/off button. |
