I just got a used 16" carbine and what I thought was a A2 flashhider is...is....something else. At first I was thinking it was some kind of ban state fake A2 but it looks like some kind of linear compensator.
Any ideas? http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a535/motivated99/IMG_20130808_195632_523_zps479641f6.jpg |

It's a fake comp. |
| It's a 'fake comp' because there are no exits for the gas except the muzzle of the device, so it accomplishes nothing. It's a pointless device now. You could drill holes in the flutes - the three closest to the top - and it would actually function to some extent. |

Thanks guys. What does everyone think, should I fiddle with drilling holes (I'm not much better than a monkey with that sort of thing) or just replace it? Without some idea of what you wish to accomplish by drilling and how to go about designing for that goal I'd just replace it with a flash hider / brake / comp (whichever best suits your intended use). IMHO, YMMV, and all that stuff, |
