Shame shame Megaro,,,that is a 601 lower on that carbine and you want to know about the $30 plastic stock??? Most likely it is a Colt stock, and it would be a generation 3. Yes, well, ummm, yes. One of my retro interests is what happened to all those gorgeous 601s, and this is one of the few that I have seen clear photos of in non-rifle dress. I have also read conflicting accounts as to whether this would be a 2 position or 4 position buffer tube. I suppose that the lower would have been converted first, and then maybe the 604 upper re-barreled at a later time? I have read many accounts of the Air Force "mixmaster" but the CAR stock to me just seemed very dissimilar (yet interesting) with the rest of the weapon. I guess it is just what the armorer had on hand. |

Hey, he's giving you shit about the stock and it has an M4 barrel? m1sniper definitely is messing with you. That is probably the simplest, and maybe most effective AR carbine build you will ever do. Also the cheapest if you can score an NDS 601 'blem' lower. |
| Very easy clone build as stated. Stocks seem to run $25 still in the bag quite frequently. Definately not even close to being my favorite but I had to buy one just like everyone else here. Think my two position tube days are well behind me but I believe NDS is playing along reasonably priced. A-2 door and black charging handle. Dimple pins and a very nice bolt catch and yuk! I believe I just saw an A-2 pg. |

PS,,back to one of your original Qs regarding that weapon,,I don't know how many positions that extension would be,,honestly,it could be anything and it would be arguably correct. A hellava lot of leeway on these AF mixmasters.
Morg,,ya made me chuckle,,yes I saw the barrel,,but was busting chops about the $30 part in question in the mix with an original 601 lower that appears to have all it's early features.

Would the airforce have cut M4 feed ramps in to that upper? Or just have lived with the m4 ramps + non ramped upper?[i]
Wondering if the answer is carved in stone. Would kinda doubt it and hope others would leave it alone. Does appear to be round forge 604 from what I'm seeing. Good question considering the interest in a military LW carbine build. Less coins pretty slick. A current armorer should be along I'm hoping. [i]I will have an ALL Colt version except with a 723 barrel, and Nodak 601 lower all done for $630ish. Pretty good shopping. I'd probably be closer to $800 with NDS locked and loaded with some decent visually low mileage parts. Might have to look into one with possibly a budget barrel. Wish I knew then what I know now as I passed on a few what looked like new Colt M-4's for a decent price a little while back. |

Considering they are only re barreling as needed and using the same uppers, and other parts, I am guessing they don't spend extra money/time matching the feed ramps. The gun should still work fine. |
