I just got my Model 1 parts kit and am trying to put my lower together, following the instructions I found here on AR15.com, which I printed out. I also have the military armorer's manual.
I am using a Rock River Arms lower receiver.
I think I have a problem in that the selector/safety detent will not go all the way into the hole. It only goes in about halfway, with the back half sticking out. As it is, it is not even touching the safety switch. I tried lightly tapping it, but it got bound up and was hard to get back out.
Peering into the hole with a flashlight, it looks like there is a shoulder in the hole where it tightens to a narrower diameter.
Should it be like that?
Do I need to drill the hole out? And if so, what size bit should I use?
Or is everything normal and I'm just reading the directions wrong??

Thanks for any help you can give!

Case, The hole is 1/8" (.125")all the way thru.  The small dia. of the detent is .123 so you should have .002" clearance.  The Counterbore, Bigger part of the hole (grip side) is .147" -- Yes the detent should fall into the hole and set aprox 1/8" below flush with the selector in the fire position.  Try HAND turning a 1/8" drill thru the hole, most times this will clean out the rough burrs. Good luck, ALLONS11

First make sure you are using the right detent, when you get those small parts kits there are several detents throught out the rifle that look similar  and they can sometimes be confused.  There are two detents in the push pins and a saftey selector detent and the front sight post detent  also may look like (it  might go there)    1L19

Thanks a million guys!
Apparently the hole was actually too small. I stuck a .125 bit in the hole and there was no way it was going through, and no way I could hand turn it if it was biting. I chucked it up in the drill and ran it through (after removing the selector, of course). It actually removed some material - not just burrs, either. If I had to guess I would say the drill took about .005.
At any rate, the detent will now drop in until the "rim" part of it catches on the shoulder. I guess all is well now.
Thanks again, guys!!
