Comp XD was a predecessor to the M2 series.

Thats correct. Between 100 and 1000 hours of battery life. The XD series also came with a few choices in reticle sizes. Wire retention straps for the adjustment caps, and some even adjusted from the brightest setting to the lowest instead of the standard lowest to brightest. I still have an old Comp XD.

Mostly, except for the wire adjustment cap retainers on the XD's and the rubber adjustment cap retainers on the M2 and M3 series.

My carbine is wearing a Comp-M XD with the 3moa dot. You can't tell the difference on the outside, except for the wire retainers. They were and still are great sights. But like all things AR, they are surpassed by updates and new technology.

It is still after all an Aimpoint. Made by the same company to the same standards. Depending on its condition, it would be a good choice for an AR.

But that picture shows the rubber retainers, so I'd ask a lot of questions. Look closely.

That is definitely a pre-CET series sight.  In other words, it can't be a CompM2.  That series of sights, whether it's an XD sight or pre-XD, had the model name laser engraved on the switch/battery housing on all CompM and CompML sights.  That's the best way to tell what it is.  The rubber cap retainers were not available on pre-CET series sights, but they could be retrofitted without any other changes.

I hope that helps!

Mike.

Well i talk to SgtBuzzard and he got the scope today and it turns out it was a Comp M XD.
He said it was engraved on the battery compartment. He also said it turns on from the brightest to the lowest.  Is that normal?
Tahnks for everyones help. He said he would post a pic of it later. he went out of town for the weekend.
