New to AR-15 and forum.  Hoping some of you out their with experience can help out.  A few weeks ago went shootin' with some buddies that brought an AR-15 (RRA) and fell in love with it.  Been looking around and everyone I've talked to seems to think Rock River Arms puts out the best civilian rifles, but looking at their website, they have way too many variants.  So I've got a few questions as to the different options like, What is the benefit of different handguard lengths, what would be reasonably priced scopes and mounting systems, and what would be a good starting set-up for plinkin' at 100-200 yards?  Any advice to get me started would be great, feel free to offer up other companies and advice to look at as well, consider me a clean slate.   Thanks.

at those distances i would just use iron sights. but if your really want optics just for plinking get a fake aimpoint. about 100$ decent quality, its good for just dicking around. if you want quality your gonna look at $500 plus for good optics. check out 1337 tactical for the fake aimpoints.

as for the rifle itself RRA is quality, cant go wrong with RRA, bushmaster, LMT, colt ...etc. i would say they are more top teir there are also some more then decent options like DPMS.

handguard length doesnt matter if you mean like just the part you put your hand on. but its what the length of the barrel and gas tube that change anything in perfomance. pretty much the longer the more accurate in realllllly reallllly basic terms.
