CAR length quad rail hand guard and a low profile gas block.

If you do it that way then your hand guard will cover the gas block and where the barrel meets the flash hider.

That's how I did mine:

Yeah on a 7"-7.5" you'll want a carbine length free float handguard.  The gas system will still be pistol length.  Also you are correct that you'll need low profile gas block.  Some guys just get a barrel with an A2 front tower and cut the sight off leaving the gas block.  Make sure if you go that route your careful not to damage the gas block part of the sight also if it has a bayonet lug that'll need to go too.  The easy way of course is to order a low profile from MI or Larue.

I am building a pistol with a 10.5" barrel.  I ordered a pistol length gas tube and low profile gas block from PK firearms today.  Should I still use the carbine length free float handguard?  Does anyone have a picture of what that will look like?

Thanks
