Hey fellas, just looking for some suggestions and advice. This is my first AR308 build and would like some feedback on the next steps. I'll be using the rifle for hunting as well as target shooting up to 600M
So far I've got:
Aero Precision M5 Upper
Aero Precision M5 Lower
Aero Precision BCG
Aero Precision Charging Hangle
Aero Precision Buffer tube and upper parts
(Schuyler Arms has a killer deal going on for Aero P right now)
Trident 4lb trigger

I'm looking for advice on which barrel to choose. I wanted a 16" but will compromise with an 18" if its a deal. I'd also like to keep this whole weapon light since I'll be hunting with it.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Ares 16"? located here: Ares barrel
Or any input on the Tactical Government mid-length barrel
I know Rainer Arms has a great barrel everyone recommends but I would like to try something different, and then if need be buy a Rainer Arms barrel.
As for Gas block I'm open to suggestions but I'll have to chose a barrel first.

I'm also open to suggestions for the Rail, stock and everything else. I'm deployed right now so I have time to wait for deals if you guys think it will be worth it.

I know, I've been doing it for a while, but I also live on a budget and shop for good products on sale. I originally wanted a Rainer Arms barrel but will have to wait until they have a sale

Buying one time is cheaper than buying twice

FWIW, I found for a 308 I am happier with a longer barrel.  I wouldn't go shorter than 18" and when I recently upgraded my DPMS top to bottom I went to a 20" barrel  These guns are already heavy, a couple of inches of barrel length is a good trade off.

While I will always advocate 16" or less for .308 if shooting 600 yards or less this is a great deal on a great 18" barrel by Ballistic Advantage: http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/product.18-308-tactical-government-mid-length-barrel-modern-series-87-993

I would look at Ballistic Advantage barrels for a decent quality barrel in your price range.  I have seen quite a few people claiming very good accuracy from them.

Currently building my first 308 as well. Finished my JMT 80% poly lower and this is the barrel I'm getting:

I'm going to order a Syrac Ordnance adjustable gas block as well and leaning towards a Fortis Switch handguard.
