At a carbine class yesterday, a fellow student let me shoot his tricked-out AR. I really liked the fore-end he had, but forgot to ask him who made it. it's very slim and has a full rail on top, some rail on bottom and none on the side. Can anyone help me find this piece?

thank you.

You just described at least a dozen different types of rails.

The best thing I can suggest is to go to a large suppliers website like Brownells, Bravo Company, etc. there is a lot of them. Many are linked to this site. However, I think what your talking about is the super slim modular handgaurds that started out being popular popular with 3-gun and other competition shooters and now, in my area at least, many people have 'em on carbines. They do feel good, huh? anyway here are a few to start with: Midwest Industries Gen2 SS-Series one piece handgaurds, Centurion CMR Handgaurds, Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail, PRI GEN III Rifle Handgaurd, Troy/VTAC BattleRail, etc.  Hope this helps and good luck.

Almost all the major rail manufacturers make that type rail now. Here are some to get you started.

KAC URX
Centurion CMR
Geissele SMR
Fortis REV
Daniel Defense MFR
Wilson TRIM rail

Then you have all the rail with a top rail and keymod system so, a little more info would definitely help.

ETA: MasterBlaster beat me to it

FYI: Don't dismiss the Aero Precision COP M4 as a possibility strictly due to it's picture on Medicfrost's excellent resource link..

One of the configurations you can do with the COP M4 is a half rail (front end) on the bottom and slick sides, due to it's interchangeable rail sections.

It's a long shot but figured I'd add it to your list of possibilities.

My best advice is to take a little exploration trip into the "Industry" section and begin checking out some of the picture threads...starting with the manufacturers that have been previously mentioned. You may even come across something that a little more appealing. Happy searching...

Sounds similar to something I got from Marks Armory.

I believe they were extended oval along the length.

Made from Aluminum. The one from Parallax Tactical is the closest I've seen in my search. I'm tracking down the owner to ask him, but it may take a while.

Did it look like this but with a rail section on the bottom?
