Can you take a look at this and tell me what you think ?  I would say Colt, but it has no proof marks (last picture)
faint forging flash near the charging handle area (3rd picture), and the thin vertical line is missing from the "hump" on
the driver's side of the upper (first picture).  The front lug is rebated and the same color as the rest of the upper.
There is no center "hash" mark on the rear sight wheel direction arrow forging (4th picture)

Chinese.  A bunch appeared on the market after the Panic started.  I had one myself.

A Chinese A1 upper?  Do you have some sources/info to back that up?  First I have heard of Chinese A1 uppers hitting the market during the panic...

Read the link Boywonder posted.  Norinco makes an M16 clone, and apparently some of the parts have been floating around.

i think it's just speculation that it's chinese at this point right?  since no norinco ar15s have been imported, i'd be curious on how they got here.  they could have come through canada but that'd be strange that of all the parts they'd choose to import, it would be an a1 upper.

there's some threads here about a S marked upper that's rumored to be singapore.

Actually about 200 were imported before the 1994 ban.  Speculation?  Yes, but informed speculation.  A bunch of us looked at the photos we could find of the Norinco clone and the upper appeared to match.  It's easier to catalog the negatives:
- Not a Colt/Milspec: incorrect machining
- Mine wasn't Singapore nor Philippines - it had no markings whatsoever.
- Doesn't appear to be Olympic or some of the other aftermarket types: again, wrong machining.

If it is dimensionally correct (mine was), just shoot it.  China is run by greedy oligarchs who have no qualms about manufacturing crap consumer goods, but the quality of their firearms is an exception to that rule.
