I'm ready to purchase another AR platform, and I will likely not buy another for a looong time after this investment...so I want to make this a truly informed decision. It will be used mainly for range shooting and the occasional run through a carbine course (or SHTF situation...it is 2012 after all). As background to hopefully point out I'm not completely ignorant - I have shot a wide variety of firearms during my time in the service. I believe I can get some sound advice on this forum to finally tip the scales for me.
That said, I'm trying to decide between a Noveske middie with a 14.5" barrel or a KAC AR 15-E3 Mod1. I love the idea of owning a KAC, but their proprietary parts are what's keeping me away at this time. I'm still on the fence on whether or not the M249 barrel on the Noveske is really going to be that big of a difference. Everything else between the two are just about even (IMHO). On the one hand, I can go with a Noveske and with the extra $$ get a really nice optic, or get the KAC and "never look back". Thoughts? |

It will take what you can dish out and parts interchangeability is a huge plus. You can't go wrong with a FN manufactured CHF barrel, period. I have used many from different companies and they are mostly the same aside from differences in the external machining and rollmarks. 12.5" seems to be the "sweet spot" for them, no matter what brand FN CHF. I think it has something to do with harmonics at that length. You would probably be just as happy with a CHF PSA. I currently have 3 Noveske CHF and 3 PSA CHF. The PSAs are a lighter profile and I actually prefer it. |
