| After cleaning my D.S tonight, I have been mulling over converting it to piston operated. I am by no means a gunsmith and was wondering if I could do the converting by myself. I have looked in to the Osprey system and watching several Youtube videos on it. I would love to hear from all you Piston guys about this process of converting it over. Which system is the easiest to install, which system works the best. All suggestions are welcomed. Thanks everyone. |

I have used the Adam Arms kit and just recently got the Osprey kit. I think they both are fairly easy to install.
My personal opinion is that I like th osprey that it is simple it has no springs. It is very simple. It requires very little smithing skills. You pull off the hand guards remove the BCG, the gas tube and install the Osprey. Took me about 10 minutes to do the whole thing. Only down side with the osprey is their are only 2 -3 rails that work with it currently. The Adams kit you have to pull the gas block then reinstall their gas block and kit. Still pretty simple I think you would be happy with either. |

If you're comfortable removing the gas block, I'd recommend going with AA. When I say comfortable, I don't only mean mechanically able to do it. Some people just have issues with gas blocks that aren't pinned.
Osprey is a great choice if you're one of those people. There are a few others out there like ARES/Bushmaster and TNW which don't require removal of the gas block, but I think Osprey has the edge on design. I'm an AA person myself, and I put my uppers together from the ground up. No FSBs and taper pin holes in my barrels. I've done 5 retrofits with the AA, and 2 of those FSBs had to be cut off. I hope yours is not as stubborn if you end up going AA. |

Klegg,
Depending on the rail, Currently there are limited offerings with the osprey such as, some M.I rails are osprey ready. , YHM with some slight modding, Magpul MOE hand guard with a slight modding. I here they are working with some of the rail mfg's to get some more out there. |
