| Just got done putting my 2nd AR together, but I am having trouble loading a full magazine with the bolt forward. The magazine will not seat in place unless the bolt is locked to the rear. It has no problem stripping a round off when I release the bolt, but it will not allow a mag to be put in place when the bolt is all the way forward. Is this just a mag problem? |

This thread could possibly be of interest to you: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=17&t=331247 You might also need to adjust your mag release screw but more than likely the thread above contains what you are experiencing. mike |
Whew, the thread Mr Wilson posted is Anyway, the reason is pure and simple......with only 28 rounds, it makes mag changes smooth and easy. Give it a try. Load up 30, closed bolt, install mag....push hard, it will go. Now, down load 1 round, install mag.....it goes, but still requires a little effort. Now, down load another round (28 total), install mag.....ahhh, nice and easy. If you always load with an open bolt, top to 30, you will have no trouble. But when the heat is on and you perform a tactical reload (reloading before you are dry) you will have trouble, costing you time......and maybe embarrassment, or worse. Just a note: The rifle doesn't care left or right when it's running, why the hell would it care when it's charging?? Silly. |

Since they’re are more than a few types of mags out there (spring tensions and even longer than normal followers), there are some mags that will not be usable as 30 rounders for locked B/C loads. The simple rule is that you need almost a full void of round space that you can shove the stack downward in the mag when max loaded to allow it to seat in the well/against the bottom of the carrier. Now having said that, If you have a true 30 round type mag (read can be loaded to almost 31 rounds), then when loaded into the well, it may take a palm blow to the bottom of the mag to seat it against a closed B/C (lock up on the mag catch) until the spring seats/takes a set. |
