I cant seem to get the rail level. I use the little tool that goes into the gas tube slot but then when I tighten the nut down and slide the rail on its always canted a bit
any tips?

When I installed mine I used my ACOG to bridge the gap from the upper to rail to keep it aligned.
Have an optic you can use to hold it still?

+1 on optic. Anything long enough would work. I use an old carry handle.

I didn't bother with their tool as it was always off. I just rotated it slightly so that when I torqued it down it was aligned. It took a few tries, but less than 10 minutes total.
