I have recently become a Aimpoint convert, hanging 1) GG&G Fire rail, GG&G Aimpoint ring, and GG&G A2 Style BUIS Flip Up Rear Sight. 2) A.R.M.S. Swan mount with built in #40 BUIS, and A.R.M.S #22M68 ring. I am leaning towards the GG&G set up, only because the BUIS looks more user friendly, but I know the military is running the ARMS equipment. Looking for any input, customer service, past problems, etc. The weapon will be used for general patrol, and infrequent/occasional high risk warrant service. Thanks in advance for any help. Well, for an Aimpoint on a flat top I like to skip the whole scout rail business all together. While I think forward mounting is far superior, I dont find you need a rail to do so with the Aimpoints. There are EXCELLENT quality forward mounts that attatch right to the reciever like the GG&G Cantilever mount, and the Knights offset mount. I dont really have a prefference between these two mounts, but if I had to pick one (and I did), I would go with (and I went with!) the GG&G Cantilever because it has a pretty cool spare battery compartment. A GG&G Cantilever or Knights Offset mount with an Aimpoint and a BUIS will put you right where you need to be. Both of these mounts will put the Aimpoint out even further than the scout rails you mentioned, will save you money, and weight. Win-Win situation. However, if you really want to go with a rail, to me it would depend on if you have M4 handguards or not. The ARMS and the GG&G equipment are both top notch. No way to go wrong with either. However! The ARMS #38-ex does not fit over the M4 handguards. I have no idea why they dont remedy that, I cant imagine it would be too dificult. But they just dont clear the fatter handguards. Some folks have dremeled a little off their handguards until they clear, and that is one option. But the GG&G Scout rail already fits over the fatter M4 handguards. So if you did have the M4 style, I would (and did!) go with the GG&G Scout rail. Not only does it fit over the M4 handguards, but it gives you a little more extention as well. If you do go GG&G Scout rail, you still need s BUIS. I love the ARMS #40 and it will fit behind the GG&G Scout rail. When I had this set up, this is the way I ran it. The ARMS #40 is the only spring loaded BUIS, which means it can not get knocked down. If it does, it will spring right back into position. On top of that, should it get dropped on the sight, the rounded protective ears of the ARMS #40 will assist in making sure the sight "gives" into the impact and folds down as opposed to bending or breaking like other, non-spring loaded sight that lock in the up position may. So, loads of options. Personally, I like the Cantilever mounted direct to the flat top, with a ARMS #40 flip up rear... YMMV. |
